Hand Sanitizers

One of the easiest ways to sidestep infection is by following your mother’s advice – wash your hands! Even when you’re on the go, you can keep your hands clean by using a waterless, anti-bacterial hand sanitizer. Many hand sanitizers contain isopropyl alcohol (essentially, rubbing alcohol), which can dry your skin and cause irritation and cracking.

We have researched numerous hand sanitizers for you and have found several companies that manufacture hand sanitizers and hand wipes that are free of isopropyl alcohol or contain organic alcohol (also called non-GMO alcohol). Organic alcohol does not have the same drying effects as isopropyl alcohol. The active ingredients in many of these isopropyl alcohol-free hand sanitizers are benzalkonium chloride and essential oils. However, if you do choose to use a hand sanitizer that contains isopropyl alcohol, we suggest you use one that contains a moisturizer like glycerin or aloe vera, which will counteract some of the drying effects of the alcohol.

Whatever your choice, it’s a good idea to moisturize your hands with a lovely deep-healing emollient (like shea butter) immediately after using your hand sanitizer.
